- It’s a geometric figure which is formad when we stand in the stirrups.
- The function of the triangle becomes effective when the player partially or fully leaves the seat and places its weight on the stirrups.
- The triangle is formed between:
- Point A = the point of the hip. Point B= the knee. Point C= the heel.
- The shape of the triangle varies depending on the movement of the horse.
- When sitting in the saddle and not using the stirrups the triangle will not be formed
- By joining points A,B and C we get 3 connections: AB = high grip with the upper leg. BC= long grip and support of lower leg. AC= balance or stability.
BENEFITS
- The triangle creates a position of balance and alert similar to other sports like tennis, golf, box etc.
- The triangle helps with the balance of the horse as It positions the rider close to the withers.
- The triangle secures the player’s grip to the saddle from the waist down, creating stability and therefore allowing freedom of movement from the waist up.
- The triangle position acts as a shock absorber when checking or stopping the horse to prevent the rider from hitting themselves on the saddle.
- The triangle allows the player to turn the hip and shoulders during the swing and the hips when riding (steering wheel)
- It helps with the timing of short and medium distance shots.
- It helps to become a more sensitive player by softening the connection between horse and rider.
- We instinctively form the golden triangle when we get up from sitting on a chair.
